Collaborative Tool design model optimization
Several set of parameters need to be tested when using Finite Element Method (FEM) to reach an optimized design (the best of several feasible designs, e.g. in terms of minimum cost or weight, maximum performance, a combination, etc). This process can not only take days or weeks but also creates extreme high data volumes. In SMART VORTEX data stream management has been used to analyse trend calculations and automatically modify the parameter(s) for structural design, while performing simulations. Thus, the structural designers avoid stopping and restarting the simulation processes when testing a different set of parameters, and so, massive time reduction is obtained. This has been demonstrated in the FE Design use case for structural and fluid optimization. To support this process, SMART VORTEX provides a 3D viewing environment to visualize data streams resulting from FEM simulations, show the actual state of the simulation job and evolution of previous simulation cycles, and to allow the rotation, zooming and scrolling of the structure for inspections. 3D viewing windows are synchronized in real-time to provide the same viewing experience to all users and allow collaborative work.
Hydro Motor System dimensioning and surveillance
This approach has strong advantages for direct and real-time monitoring of processes, as we demonstrated in use case of Hägglunds. Real-time data streams generated from sensors mounted on large Hydro Motor Systems are the base for the dimensioning of new motors and the analysis of the behaviour of the hydraulic system. They are used to offer predictions on needed maintenance activities as well as to immediately react in the case of disturbances.
Fleet management of construction machines
Wheel-loader get equipped with sensors and on-board data stream management systems connected over the CAN-bus. The on-board unit validates continuous queries of generated data streams in real time, and connects to central monitoring centres in the case of malfunctions or upcoming maintenance needs. As demonstrated in the Volvo construction machine control use case, in collaborative stream visualization processes, failures can be identified and best methods to eliminate the misbehaviour can be discussed and a common decision and action can be brought about.
Tool and machine design with tool model optimization
The design of new milling tools requires simulation models for the virtual tool design to get the best performance in the production stage. In the Sandvik design model optimization use case, sensor generated data streams from the milling machine are captured to feedback on R&D. The output is used in two ways: to verify the prototypes of virtual models in order to have the best designs for future developments; and to generate the calculated stream libraries for numerical control parameters in order to get optimal results in the milling process and trigger only accurate alerts.
Early adopters
Project efforts have been developed under four controlled exploitation scenarios. As the project has completed the demonstrators stage, end users relate to the demonstrator`s domains and become targeted early adopters and support final output refinements.
